Deep Dive & Practical Guide

What Sets Image to Video Apart

An engineering and creative breakdown of model performance, architecture, and practical production workflows.

A still image already settles the hard questions: the subject, the framing, the colours, the style. Image to video keeps those decisions and adds motion. Upload a product photo, a portrait, a painting or something you made with Cinel's image models, describe what should move, and you get a short clip in which the first frame looks just like your picture. The page opens on Seedance 1.0 Turbo for low-cost tests, and 18 more video models are a click away.

What makes Cinel's image to video different

Video models handle images in three different ways, and picking the wrong one is the most common reason a clip disappoints. Cinel labels them clearly:

  1. First frame: your image opens the clip and the model invents what happens next. Best for "bring this photo to life".
  2. First and last frame: you supply where the shot starts and where it ends, and the model fills in the motion between them. Best for reveals, transitions and product turns.
  3. Multi-reference: several images guide a character, outfit, product or setting that the model then stages freely. Best for keeping identity across a scene.

Key features

  • Your picture stays the anchor: composition, colours and subject carry into the motion.
  • Camera direction: push-ins, orbits, pans or a locked-off frame.
  • Native sound on supported models: ambience, effects and dialogue.
  • Lengths from 1 to 30 seconds and resolutions up to 4K, depending on the model.
  • Social formats: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and more.
  • Image → video in one place: create the still with Text to Image or Image to Image, then animate it.

How to animate an image on Cinel

  1. Open Image to Video and upload your picture. Match its shape to the output: a landscape image for 16:9, a portrait image for 9:16.
  2. Pick a model from the table according to the control you need. Add an end frame or extra references if the model supports them.
  3. Describe only the motion: "steam rises from the cup, camera slowly pushes in". The image already shows what things look like.
  4. Choose duration and resolution, and turn on sound if available.
  5. Generate, review, then render the keeper at a higher resolution or longer length.

Tips for natural motion

  • Use a sharp image with space around the subject, so the camera has room to move.
  • Keep motion small for portraits (a blink, a smile, hair in the wind). Big actions can distort faces.
  • For first-and-last-frame clips, keep the lighting and background consistent between the two images.
  • Products look best with slow orbits, light sweeps or a simple pour.
  • Sora 2 rejects input images that contain human faces. For portrait animation, use Kling, Wan or Seedance.

Use cases

  • Product showcases: a rotating sneaker, a perfume with a light sweep, a drink being poured.
  • Living portraits and avatars for profiles and intros.
  • Animated artwork: illustrations, posters and album covers with subtle motion.
  • Real-estate and travel stills turned into gentle camera moves.
  • Ad variations: one hero image, several motion directions to A/B test.
  • Story beats: start and end frames for a planned transition.

Image to Video vs Text to Video

Use image to video when the look must be exact: your product, your character, your brand palette. Use Text to Video when you're still exploring and want the model to invent the scene. Animating a strong still usually gives more control than describing every detail in words.

FAQ

Before you create

Which model should I use to animate a portrait?

Kling 3.0, Kling O3, Wan 2.6 or Seedance models work well with people. Keep the motion subtle. Sora 2 won't accept input images that contain faces.

What is first-and-last-frame mode?

You upload a starting image and an ending image, and the model generates the movement between them. Kling O1, Kling O3, Veo 3.1 and Wan 2.7 support it.

Can my animated photo have sound?

Yes, on models with native audio, such as Sora 2, Veo 3.1, Wan 2.5, Wan 2.6, Kling O3, Seedance 2.x, MiniMax H3 and Grok Imagine Video 1.5.

Why does my video look stretched or cropped?

The image shape probably doesn't match the output aspect ratio. Use a landscape image for 16:9 and a portrait image for 9:16, or expand the picture first with AI Uncrop.

Can I animate images I made on Cinel?

Yes. Send any result from Text to Image, Image to Image or the AI Image Editor straight to Image to Video.

Is image to video free?

Signed-in users get one free 2-second 480p Seedance 1.0 Turbo clip per day using daily credits. Other models use paid credits, shown before you generate.
