About Illustration & Anime
Illustration prompts reward precise vocabulary. Asking for “a drawing” gives a model almost nothing to work with; asking for a risograph print in two spot colors, a loose watercolor with visible paper texture, or a cel-shaded anime frame with clean line art gives it a whole set of decisions about line, color and texture. The prompts in this category were selected because they speak that vocabulary fluently, and because the results look like they came from a particular medium rather than a generic digital style.
You will find traditional media styles such as watercolor, gouache, ink, woodcut and linocut, as well as children's picture-book illustration, editorial spot illustrations, character design and turnaround sheets, manga and anime scenes, and stylized portraits. Several prompts are designed for a reference image and convert a photo of a person or place into a drawn style while keeping its composition. A few Chinese-language prompts draw on classical Chinese painting and literature.
All examples were generated by cinel. We excluded prompts built around copyrighted characters or real celebrities, and reference-based examples use fictional AI-generated subjects. If a prompt names a living artist, consider describing the qualities you like, such as palette, line weight and composition, instead of the name.
To adapt an illustration prompt, change the subject first and keep the medium description intact, since that is what defines the look. Then try adjusting the palette or the paper and texture words to make the style your own. Seedream 5 Pro and Nano Banana Pro both handle painterly styles well; Kolors is a quick, low-cost way to explore simple illustrated scenes; for anime-style character sheets with labels, try GPT Image 2.5.
Questions
Can I turn a photo into an illustration with these prompts?
Yes. Prompts marked “Needs a reference image” are designed for image-to-image: upload your photo and the prompt redraws it in the described style.
Why doesn't the library include prompts for famous anime characters?
We exclude prompts that depend on copyrighted characters or real people. You can still describe an original character in any anime or manga style.
How do I get a consistent illustration style across several images?
Keep the medium, palette and line-quality description identical in every prompt and change only the subject. Using the same model and aspect ratio also helps.
